Own your knowledge base

Own your knowledge base. Plain files win.

Most team knowledge today lives in rented databases: wikis, workspace apps, all-in-one platforms. They are pleasant right up until you need the one thing they never give you: your knowledge back, whole, on your terms.

What renting really costs

  • Export is an afterthought. Try leaving any workspace platform and you get a zip of half-broken pages, dead links, and formats nothing else reads. The harder it is to leave, the less the vendor has to earn your renewal.
  • The format is the moat. Proprietary blocks and databases mean your knowledge only works inside the product that holds it.
  • Longevity is not your call. Products pivot, get acquired, sunset features, change pricing. Your team's memory should not depend on someone else's board meeting.

Why plain markdown files are different

  • Readable by anything, forever. Markdown from 2010 opens perfectly today and will in 2040. No importer needed, ever.
  • Auditable. Files diff, files version, files answer "what changed". Databases mostly do not, or only inside the vendor's walls.
  • AI-native by accident. Every AI model reads markdown natively. A file-based knowledge base needs no special integration to be useful to an agent, and no vendor's permission.
  • Leavable, therefore trustworthy. When export is trivial, the product has to win on merit every month. That discipline is good for the buyer AND for the product.

The honest trade-off

Files alone are not enough for a TEAM: raw files in a synced folder overwrite each other, carry no permissions, and keep no attribution. That is the gap worth paying for: live merge, per-file access, named history, agent doors. But those belong as a layer ON TOP of files you own, never as a format that replaces them. The test is one question: if you left tomorrow, would you take everything, intact? If the answer is no, you do not own your knowledge base. It owns you.

Memava is exactly that layer: plain markdown you own, upgraded with live collaboration, per-file access, full history, and AI agents under the same rules. See the product or start free for 30 days.
